The Room That Never Opens

The Room That Never Opens

The first thing Samer noticed when he entered the house was the black door at the end of the hallway.

The house was old, but it was spacious and relatively clean. The rent was surprisingly cheap, and Samer accepted the offer almost immediately. He worked from home and wanted a quiet place away from the noise of the city.

Three bedrooms. A large living room. A small kitchen. A neglected backyard. And a long hallway ending with a strange black door.

The door was different from every other door in the house.

Its wood was dark black, its handle was old metal, and a heavy lock hung across it as if no one had opened it for years.

When the landlord handed Samer the keys, he pointed toward the hallway.

“Everything in the house is yours... except the last room.”

Samer looked at the door.

“Why?”

The man remained silent for several seconds.

“Because it never opens.”

Samer laughed.

“You mean it’s locked.”

The man slowly shook his head.

“No. I mean it never opens.”

Then he left.

At first, Samer thought the landlord was simply trying to scare him.

That night, he discovered that it was not a joke.

3:17 A.M.

On his first night, Samer fell asleep quickly because of exhaustion.

But at exactly 3:17 a.m., he woke up to the sound of knocking.

Knock... knock... knock.

He opened his eyes and looked at his phone.

03:17.

He sat on the bed.

Silence filled the room.

He thought it had been a dream.

Then the knocking came again.

Knock... knock... knock.

This time, the sound came from the end of the hallway.

Samer stepped out of his bedroom.

The entire house was dark.

The kitchen light flickered slowly.

He walked toward the sound.

Until he reached the black door.

He stopped.

He placed his hand on the lock.

It was unnaturally cold.

Then he heard a voice behind the door.

A woman's voice.

A weak whisper:

“Samer...”

He froze.

“Who’s there?”

No answer.

Then the voice came again.

“Samer... open the door.”

He stepped back quickly.

He returned to his bedroom and locked the door.

He did not sleep until morning.

The Landlord's Warning

The next day, Samer called the landlord.

“I want to ask you about the last room.”

A long silence followed.

“What happened?”

“I heard a voice coming from it.”

The man said nothing.

Samer continued:

“Did someone live in that room?”

Finally, the man asked:

“Did you open the door?”

“No.”

“Good.”

“What is behind it?”

The man's voice became quiet.

“Don't try to find out.”

Then he hung up.

Samer stared at his phone.

It was obvious that the man knew something.

Something terrifying.

The Knocking Returns

Three days passed without anything strange happening.

Samer began convincing himself that what happened on the first night had been nothing more than exhaustion and imagination.

But on the fourth night, he woke up again at exactly 3:17 a.m.

This time, there was no knocking at the black door.

The sound was coming from underneath his bed.

Knock... knock... knock.

Samer remained completely still.

He could hear slow breathing beneath the bed.

Then a whisper:

“Samer...”

He grabbed his phone.

He opened the camera without looking underneath the bed.

Slowly, he pointed the phone toward the floor.

Nothing appeared.

Only darkness.

Suddenly, a face appeared on the phone screen.

A pale woman standing behind Samer.

He turned around.

There was no one there.

He looked back at the phone.

The screen was black.

Then a single message appeared:

“Why didn't you open the door?”

The Old Photograph

The following morning, Samer decided to search the house.

He opened old cabinets and drawers until he found a wooden box in the storage room.

Inside were old family photographs.

In one of them, a man, a woman, and a little girl stood in front of the same house.

Samer turned the photograph over.

A date was written on the back:

1998

Underneath it was a sentence:

“Mariam's last photograph.”

Samer froze.

In another photograph, the same girl was standing in front of the black door.

Behind her, someone had written:

“Do not wake her.”

Samer felt a chill run through his body.

Mariam.

Who was she?

Mariam's Disappearance

Samer decided to confront the landlord.

He found his old address, and when he arrived, the man opened the door reluctantly.

But when he saw the photograph in Samer's hand, his expression changed.

“Where did you get that?”

“I found it in the house.”

The man sat down.

He suddenly looked much older.

“You should never have found those photographs.”

Samer asked:

“Who was Mariam?”

The man answered:

“My daughter.”

“What happened to her?”

He looked at the floor.

“She disappeared.”

“How?”

He raised his eyes.

“In that room.”

Samer felt cold.

The man continued:

“Mariam was sixteen when she started hearing her mother's voice behind the door.”

Samer said:

“But her mother was dead, wasn't she?”

The man nodded.

“She had died three years earlier.”

“What happened when Mariam opened the door?”

“We don't know.”

“What do you mean?”

“She entered the room, and a few minutes later her voice disappeared.”

“And when you entered?”

“We couldn't find her.”

“But the room was locked?”

The man looked at him.

“From the outside.”

The Open Door

Samer returned home that night.

He had decided to leave the next morning.

But when he entered the house, something stopped him.

The black door was open.

Not completely.

Only a few centimeters.

Samer approached carefully.

Then he heard a voice from inside.

“Samer...”

He stepped back.

“Who are you?”

The voice answered:

“I am Mariam.”

Then it added:

“Get me out of here.”

Samer looked at the door.

He wanted to run.

But he opened it.

The Endless Room

Samer stepped inside.

At first, the room looked normal.

Then he realized something was wrong.

The room was far larger than the house could possibly contain.

The walls were covered with photographs.

Photographs of dozens of people.

Men, women, and children.

Some photographs looked very old.

Others looked recent.

Samer approached one.

It showed the landlord when he was young.

Beside him stood Mariam.

He moved to the next photograph.

A different man.

Then a woman.

Then a child.

Then he saw a photograph that made his blood run cold.

It was him.

Samer.

Standing in front of the house.

Underneath the photograph was yesterday's date.

He stepped back.

A voice came from behind him.

“Finally.”

He turned.

A young girl stood in the corner of the room.

She looked about sixteen.

Her hair was long, and her face was pale.

“Mariam?”

She smiled.

“That's my name.”

“Where have you been all these years?”

“Here.”

“How?”

She laughed softly.

“Time doesn't work here the way it does outside.”

The Terrifying Truth

Mariam moved closer.

Samer said:

“I want to leave.”

“Everyone wants to leave.”

“What does that mean?”

Her expression changed.

“I'm not Mariam.”

Samer stepped back.

“Then who are you?”

She smiled strangely.

“I'm the thing Mariam heard behind the door.”

The air seemed to disappear from the room.

“What do you want?”

She moved closer.

“I want to get out.”

“How?”

“Someone else has to stay here.”

Samer understood.

The room was not a prison for people.

It was a prison for something else.

Something that needed another person to take its place.

His Mother's Voice

Samer ran toward the door.

He grabbed the handle and pulled.

Nothing happened.

Behind him, voices began to whisper.

Dozens of voices calling his name.

“Samer...”

“Samer...”

Then he heard a voice he had not heard in years.

His mother's voice.

“Samer... I'm here.”

He froze.

The voice continued:

“Open the door, sweetheart.”

Tears filled his eyes.

He knew his mother was not there.

But the voice was exactly like hers.

“Mom?”

“Yes.”

Then the voice suddenly changed.

It became Mariam's voice.

Then the landlord's.

Then Samer's own voice.

He understood.

The creature did not have a voice of its own.

It stole the voices of people we missed.

It knew exactly what we wanted to hear.

The Last Letter

Samer remembered the wooden box.

He searched through the room.

He found dozens of letters.

He opened one.

“If you are reading this, you are inside the room.”

He opened another.

“Do not believe the voice calling your name.”

Then he found a different letter.

“Do not try to force the door open. Make the thing inside open it by itself.”

Samer thought for a moment.

Then he understood.

He turned toward the creature.

“Mariam.”

It stopped.

“Do you want to leave?”

“Yes.”

“Then leave the room.”

It moved closer.

“What will happen to you?”

“I'll leave afterward.”

She smiled.

“You're lying.”

“Maybe.”

Then he added:

“But I know one thing... you want to get out more than I do.”

Her face changed.

The walls began to shake.

The photographs fell.

The lights went out.

A terrifying scream filled the room.

Samer opened the door.

A powerful white light rushed inside.

He ran with everything he had.

Then he slammed the door shut.

Morning

Samer woke up in a hospital.

The doctors told him he had been found unconscious outside an abandoned house.

“The house isn't abandoned,” Samer said.

The doctor looked at him strangely.

“That house has been abandoned for more than twenty years.”

“What about the landlord?”

“He died years ago.”

“And Mariam?”

The room became silent.

“Who is Mariam?”

Samer said nothing.

Several days passed.

He tried to convince himself that everything had been a nightmare.

He returned to work.

He moved into a new apartment.

He tried to live normally.

Until one night, he received a letter.

There was no sender's name.

He opened it.

Inside was a single photograph.

A photograph of Samer standing in front of his new apartment.

But behind him stood Mariam, smiling.

On the back of the photograph was a sentence:

“Thank you for opening the door.”

03:17

That night, Samer suddenly woke up.

He looked at his phone.

03:17

He remained completely still.

Then he heard three knocks.

Knock... knock... knock.

The sound came from his apartment door.

Samer slowly approached it.

Then he heard a familiar voice.

His mother's voice:

“Samer... open the door.”

He closed his eyes.

He did not move.

Then he heard Mariam's voice behind him:

“Don't open it.”

Samer turned around.

No one was there.

When he looked back at the door...

It was wide open.

His apartment was gone.

Beyond the doorway was the old hallway.

And at the end of it...

The black door.

A white piece of paper was attached to it.

Samer walked closer.

He read the message:

“This time... you won't escape.”

The lights went out.

And in the darkness, Samer heard three more knocks.

Knock... knock... knock.

But this time...

The knocking was not coming from behind the door.

It was coming from inside his room.

Under his bed.

Then a whisper filled the darkness:

“Samer... I know you're awake.”

And the story ended.
